Provide a safe, enriching environment, and build relationships for employees of designated companies. Provide testing and assessments using a variety of protocols. Design and provide wellness education and correlated reports. Instruct employees on proper exercise techniques, wellness strategies and implement the Prepare for Work program. Offer wellness presentations at the wellness center.

Function/Duties of Position

  • Responsible for development of wellness strategies including but not limited to: monthly employee newsletter/bulletin boards, after work wellness activities, coordinate with PEBB for screenings and programs, annual wellness fair/BBQ, and local gym discounts.

  • Perform annual health appraisals using approved protocols for all employees at various site locations. Provide introduction trainings and fitness education.

  • Implement the Prepare for Work: Movement Program at all sites. Evaluate, correct, and instruct employees on proper exercise techniques. Proactively provide appropriate direction to employees performing dangerous or harmful exercises.

  • Provide wellness education sessions (minimum 2 per month). Includes presenting materials and securing guest speakers/workshops.

  • Present monthly progress reports on wellness activities, participation and ROI.

Required Qualifications

  • BS in exercise science or related field.
  • 6 months experience in the fitness Industry.
  • Experience providing strength training, cardiovascular, and flexibility training principles and techniques.
  • Skill in exercise testing and evaluation of test data.
  • Experience in evaluating medications, contraindications and risk factors.
  • Experience in presenting wellness lectures/workshops/classes.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Strong leadership abilities.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate to employees and staff in a courteous, friendly and professional manner.
  • Ability to project and promote a healthy image.
  • Ability to work independently, multi-task, be flexible and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • BLS HeartCode or CPR/AED certification
  • Certification through a national organization such as ACSM, NSCA, NASM, ACE.
  • Compliance with Code of Conduct, Respect in the workplace and Applicable policies, procedures and agreements related to position, department or OHSU as a whole

  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS in exercise science or related field.
  • Two years experience in the fitness industry.
  • First Aid certification

Additional Details

Pay Range: $21.81 - $29.09 per hour

  • This position is located in Portland OR and requires travel throughout Oregon, with majority of travel through Portland and surrounding area. Coverage includes maintenance facilities in Clackamas, Hood River, Multnomah and Washington counties.
  • This position requires a high level of physical activity, including standing for extended periods of time, demonstrating equipment use, and spotting. Ability to lift a minimum of 80 pounds essential. Requires a valid Oregon driver’s license, vehicle and the ability to drive up to 8 hours.
