Shift hours: Tuesday-Friday, 1-10 p.m., Saturday 8:30-5:30 p.m. (eligible for 5% shift differential). These times include a one-hour lunch. Shift days and times may be variable due to special events on weekends.
Job Summary
Coordinates daily operation and delivery of services to support the Aquatic Center, serving students, staff, and the community. Assists in Aquatic Center program development and delivery and provides support for the oversight of part-time staff scheduling and training. Promotes and cultivates an environment that values diversity, equity, and inclusion to support the mission, goals, and values of the department and college.
Essential Duties
- Coordinates daily operation and delivery of services in the Aquatic Center, including overseeing scheduled activities, such as the swim lesson program, lap swim, fitness rentals and team practice. Ensures compliance with all training, program and safety standards.
- Provides input on staff hiring, training needs, and performance. Schedules student and part-time staff for all areas of the aquatics program.
- Provides lead oversight for part-time aquatics staff. Assigns, prioritizes, and ensures completion of tasks, including ensuring the availability of required equipment.
- Coordinates the information stream to facility users and assists in development of facility schedules and promotion materials in concert with campus marketing department.
- Assists in community aquatic program planning. Reviews scheduling for the best use of facility and other resources.
- Organizes and oversees set-up and take down of equipment for Aquatic Center events
- Assists manager with planning and facilitating appropriate activities for staff training to meet program needs and requirements, including in-service. Leads training sessions for part time aquatic staff as appropriate.
- Tracks and ensures all required staff certifications are maintained
- Assist with fundraising and marketing efforts of the Aquatic Center in coordination with MHCC Foundation staff.
- Assists in creation and maintenance of aquatic staff training manuals and materials.
- Recommends and coordinates the development and implementation of new, innovative programs that generate revenue.
Additional Duties
- Provides back-up for the maintenance of registration software. Creates classes and memberships in the registration system as needed.
- Recommends purchases for use in programming.
- Renders medical aid and emergency support as needed.
- Acts as a lifeguard and teaches aquatic swim lessons and water exercise classes as needed.
- Assists with minor custodial and maintenance tasks

- Assists with pool chemistry tests and escalates more complicated issues to appropriate staff.
- Performs all other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in recreation, health, physical education, business, administration, or related field
- Three (3) years of leadership experience working in an aquatic facility or related recreational environment, including experience utilizing registration software
- Certification as Red Cross Lifeguard, Lifeguarding Instructor, and Water Safety Instructor, or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire
- Certification as a Certified Pool Operator (CPO) and/or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO), or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire
- Basic knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and email software, preferably within the Microsoft Office Suite
- Availability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed
At the college’s discretion, additional education/experience may be substituted for experience/education on a year-for-year basis.
