Core Duties

University of Portland faculty teach, advise and serve the department, the College, and the University. Successful candidates will demonstrate a commitment to excellent undergraduate teaching, including attention to evidence-based instructional practices in the context of a primarily undergraduate teaching institution.

The successful candidate will teach in-person social work courses in the BSW program and administer the practicum program. This position requires collaborative, proactive and continuous interface with community partners to enhance the College’s connection with the local practice community. While instructors typically teach four 3-credit courses (or equivalent) per semester, this position will include administrative responsibilities for administering the practicum program considered the equivalent of one course per semester. These administrative duties include identifying and vetting practicum sites, orienting and placing BSW students, orienting and training practicum field instructors and task supervisors, monitoring, supporting, and evaluating student learning in compliance with Council on Social Work Education (CSWE ) accreditation, including annual assessments, providing professional and career-focused advising to students, and collaborating with the Program Director to ensure compliance with CSWE requirements related to accreditation.

Education & Experience

• Required: MSW from a CSWE -accredited program or a CASWE -accredited degree recognized through an Memo of Understanding with CSWE .
• Required: At least two years of post-MSW degree practice experience in social work.
• Required: Experience teaching social work or a related field at the college or university level.
• Preferred: Experience with program and curriculum development, management, and evaluation or assessment, including experience relevant to CSWE accreditation processes.
• Preferred: Knowledge of CSWE accreditation policies and standards.
• Preferred: Experience in facilitating experiential learning, including but not limited to social work practicum experiences.
• Preferred: Experience in developing and fostering relationships with Portland-area human services and community-based organizations.

Physical Requirements
