Overview

The Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for the implementation, configuration, maintenance, and performance of critical relational database management systems, to ensure the availability and consistent performance of our corporate applications. Additionally, the DBA oversees and administers the Data Warehouse, ensuring its operational readiness (security, health and performance), executing data loads, and performing data modeling in support of development initiatives and/or business reporting needs. Must be capable of working independently and collaboratively.

Responsibilities

  • Manage SQL Server databases through multiple product lifecycle environments, from development to mission-critical production systems.
  • Configure and maintain database servers and processes, including monitoring of system health and performance, to ensure high levels of performance, availability, and security.
  • Apply data modeling techniques to ensure development and implementation support efforts meet integration and performance expectations
  • Independently analyze, solve, and correct data issues in real time, providing problem resolution end-to-end.
  • Refine and automate data processes, track issues, and document changes.
  • Assist developers with complex query tuning and schema refinement.
  • Provide 24x7 support for critical production systems.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities after hours.
  • Share domain and technical expertise, providing technical mentorship and cross-training to other peers and team members.
  • Support the extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL\ELT) of data from various data sources into storage systems.
  • Creating and maintaining the Data Platform analytics technical components. This includes relational data modelling, star schemas, reporting views and ETL batch feeds.
  • Assist in the design, development, and maintenance of data pipelines for efficient data flow.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Qualifications

  • Demonstrated proficiency of troubleshooting techniques and detail-oriented problem diagnosis.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Flexible, team player and applies a sense of ownership and energy to tasks.
  • Ability to organize and plan work independently and work in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Knowledge of Oracle RAC, Azure, and Databricks preferred.
  • MCTS, MCITP, and/or MVP certifications a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related field (or equivalent experience and education).
  • 3-5 years MS SQL Server Administration experience.
  • Experience with Performance Tuning and Optimization (PTO), using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
  • Experience with database backups, restores and recovery models.
  • Knowledge of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options for SQL Server.
  • Experience working with Windows server, including Active Directory.
  • Experience with data replication technologies, such as Fivetran/HVR, database mirroring, and transactional replication, ensuring seamless data synchronization across environments and maintaining data consistency in real-time.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision to identify colored labels, cables, and indicator lights.

Use of computer workstations at desk height and use of server consoles while standing. Installation, removal or termination of cabling, in communications closets and office settings. Occasional use of ladder to reach cables or hardware in ceilings or near top of computer hardware racks. Installation or removal of computer hardware into server racks.
