Department Overview

The purpose of the position is to maintain carpets and hard-surface floors; reduce the risk of healthcare-associated infections by cleaning, sanitizing, and the clinical environment; and perform general cleaning in OHSU-operated facilities. Environmental Services Technician positions are represented by the AFSCME union.

We are hiring for multiple positions. The schedules will be determined at time of interview

 

Function/Duties of Position

Floor Care and High-Level Vacuuming:

  • Maintains carpets by vacuuming, spot cleaning, and performing light and heavy carpet extraction; maintains hard-surface floors by sweeping, spot mopping, mopping, stripping, waxing, buffing and refurbishing; uses chemical cleaners, strippers, and waxes; performs high-level vacuuming of vents, ceilings, fixtures, and ledges.

Cleaning and Sanitizing:

  • Cleans and sanitizes all surfaces and floors in patient rooms, clinical areas, support space, public areas, office space, and restrooms to include mopping, sweeping, vaccuuming, spot cleaning carpets, dust moping, wet mopping, damp wiping, high dusting; cleans and sanitizes equipment, including beds, stretchers, and bassinets; uses chemical cleaners and disinfectants.

Waste Removal:

  • Collects trash, linen, and trash carts; empties and cleans trash bins; empties and cleans trash bins; operates trash compactor and waste sterilization equipment.

Equipment & Furniture Cleaning:

  • Makes beds, cribs, and stretchers; moves beds, furniture, and other equipment for cleaning; operates EVS cleaning equipment.

Supplies and Restocking: 

  • Stocks EVS closets and carts; replenishes dispensers (soap, paper towels, toilet paper, alcohol based hand sanitizer, disposable seat covers).

Customer Service & Patient Experience:

  • Responds to patient requests in a customer-focused and timely manner; effectively utilizes I CARE and other patient experience tools for patient experience

Required Qualifications

  • Some Healthcare, janitorial, custodial experience.
  • Must demonstrate a stable work history.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak & communicate in the English language.
  • Must be able to read and understand procedures and instructions for proper chemical uses to safely perform tasks and projects.
  • Must demonstrate consistent and punctual attendance.
  • Must be able to work in teams.
  • Must be able to competently use cleaning solutions and equipment.
  • Busy environment with a lot of interruptions, multiple demands and people interactions.
  • Must demonstrate regular attendance by coming to work on scheduled working days.
  • Must be able to work independently and get along with all staff, visitors and patients.
  • Requires a high level of physical activity.
  • Must be reasonable strong and agile, able to bend, stoop, climb, walk and do lifting up to 35 lbs.
  • Must be able to work at a rapid pace. A great deal of the day is spent of your feet.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 6 months of employment experience in custodial, housekeeping or environmental services Healthcare experience
  • HS diploma/GED

Additional Details

  • This Position is Drug Testable.
  • Pay Range: $17.94 - $23.90 per hour
