Minimum Qualifications

 

A valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record are required for this position.

 

AND

 

Three years of work experience planning, organizing, or delivering employee training programs, adult learning programs, youth instructional programs, or group presentations. Experience must demonstrate the application of the principles and practices of learning.

 

OR

 

A bachelor's degree in Education, Organizational Psychology, Business or Public Administration, Training and Development, Organizational Behavior, Human Resources, or related field.

 

OR

 

An equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Special Qualifications 

 

You must become certified in the following areas:

 

  • Oregon Intervention System (OIS) classroom instructor within 1 year of being hired.

 

  • CPR/First Aid classroom instructor within 1 year of being hired.

 

  • Collaborative Problem-Solving classroom instructor within 2 years of being hired.

  • Attention to detail for following verbal and written directions, adapting curricula; documenting and maintaining records, etc.

 

  • Experience facilitating training to a diverse population of adult learners using Adult Learning Theory during joint and solo trainings.

 

  • Experience adapting your communication style including using reflective listening skills and clear-empathetic responses and feedback.

 

  • Experience collaborating with team members and providing input towards education and development goals.

 

  • Experience using time management skills to ensure coverage of topics while training and completion of required documentation.

 

  • Experience coaching teams on their use of collaborative problem-solving skills.

 

  • Experience using computers, tablets, and cell phones for documenting, reporting, and communicating information (such as, Internet, Microsoft Office applications, etc.).

 

Preferred Attributes

 

These attributes are not required to be competitive; however, they are a plus.

 

  • Experience with the Oregon Intervention System and certified as a classroom instructor.

 

  • Experience using collaborative problem solving and certified as a classroom instructor.

Summary of Duties

 

As an employee working within the Stabilization and Crisis Unit (SACU), you will be part of a program that provides 24-hour residential care to Oregonians with intellectual/developmental disabilities, often with co-occurring mental health diagnoses, whose support needs exceed the supports offered or provided by other community-based residential programs. SACU provides training and support to assist individuals in safely transitioning back to their home community. We model positive attitudes while offering assistance with access to: health and medical supports, psychological services, emotional and behavioral support, and educational supports. SACU staff also provide life skills training, recreational opportunities, and community integration. SACU is dedicated to providing the support necessary to maintain the quality of life, achieve the highest possible level of independence, and promote social opportunities, which benefit the individuals served and their communities.

 

We operate 18 residential group homes along the I-5 corridor from Portland to Eugene.

 

As a Residential Workforce Educator, you will:

 

  • Support the onboarding and annual training for our workforce.

 

  • Perform training primarily in person at our Central Office location in Salem. The training consists of new employee orientation curriculum, SACU Leadership Curriculum, Collaborative Problem Solving, and recertifications to meet licensing/ODDS/CMS requirements for all employees.

 

  • Partner with SACU management to assess and identify training needs.

 

  • Adapt and deliver customized trainings at the residential locations to meet team needs/goals while aligning to agency-wide goals and initiatives.

 

Working Conditions

 

  • You will work in a variety of settings including the office, residential group homes, community settings, public schools, etc. There is very little opportunity to work remotely.

 

  • You must have a valid license to drive, and you must have and maintain an acceptable driving record to travel to residential group homes, community settings, public schools, etc. to provide training.

 

  • You must be able to apply protective physical interventions per the Oregon Intervention System to maintain safety.

 

  • You will be performing physical protective intervention training, CPR/First Aid training, etc.

 

  • You will normally work Monday – Friday, 40-hours per week; however, as needed you will need to work a flexible schedule to include weekends and possibly any of three shifts, days, evenings, and nights.

 

  • You will occasionally be exposed to inclement weather.

 

  • You will frequently have contact with the public, employers, and other ODHS personnel and occasionally have contact with individuals' families, guardians, and advocates.

 

  • You will have the potential for exposure to volatile situations.

 

  • You are expected to wear professional and appropriate work attire for the environment.

 

  • You will regularly use computers, laptops, tablets, cell phones, scanners, faxes and copiers.

 

Background Checks and Requirements

 

  • If selected as a finalist, we will conduct a criminal history and background check. Adverse criminal history or background check may lead to disqualification.

 

  • The Oregon Department of Human Services does not offer visa sponsorship. Within three days of hire, you will be required to complete the US Department of Homeland Security’s I-9 form confirming authorization to work in the United States. ODHS will use E-Verify to confirm that you are authorized to work in the United States.

 

  • The Department of Human Services is a drug free workplace. All applicants will be subject to drug testing for Narcotics, Methamphetamine, and other controlled substances.

 

  • Your driving record must meet the qualifications of the ODHS SACU Driving Policy and will be considered unacceptable for offenses, including, but not limited to any misdemeanor or felony traffic offense in the last 24 months. 

 

If you are offered a position, you will attend a three-week paid in-person training at our central office in Salem and you must become certified during this New Employee Orientation in the following:

 

  • First Aid/CPR Certification - Requiring you to complete compressions in a kneeling position.

 

  • Oregon Intervention System Certification (OIS) - Requiring you to physically hold an individual for safety while maintaining an approved restraint on clients which may involve quick movements, changes in physical positioning, and verbal communication with coworkers. 

 

  • Medication Administration Certification - Requiring you to demonstrate competency in completing doctor's orders, appropriate passing of medications to clients, appropriate documentation, and appropriate procedures for emergencies.
