What you will do:
The Division Engineer role will review complex residential and commercial plans ensuring efficient and accurate reviews, and guiding architects, engineers, contractors, and the public in meeting design and code requirements. Responsibilities also include coordinating with other City departments and agencies, maintaining inspection records, providing expert testimony, preparing detailed reports, and advising on engineering-related issues. The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise in structural engineering, building codes, and safety standards, with the ability to make recommendations for process improvements and present complex information clearly to diverse audiences.

Additional information on job responsibilities:
- Conduct building and site plan reviews for compliance with City and State codes (structural, plumbing, mechanical, etc.).
- Assign review projects and monitor the completeness and compliance of plans with City and State regulations.
- Advise architects, engineers, contractors, and the public on building design and code specifications applicable to their proposed plans.
- Coordinate with other City departments and governmental agencies to ensure efficient review processes.
- Maintain accurate building inspection records and prepare detailed reports of plan review activities.
- Advise the Building Official on engineering-related matters and provide expert testimony at City staff meetings, Oregon Building Codes Agency meetings, and legislative groups.
- Prepare reports and recommendations for refining the plans review process.
- Develop long-term objectives related to structural engineering, earthquake-resistant structures, fire and life safety codes, and general building code matters.
- Deliver formal presentations, explaining complex technical information to a lay audience as needed.
- Resolve project challenges and obstacles, preparing solutions and reports to address concerns.

- Our team follows a hybrid work structure where employees can work remotely or from the office 555 Liberty St SE, as needed, based on demands of specific tasks and manager approval. This is subject to change based on business needs.

What are the minimum qualifications?
- Must pass the pre-employment background check.
- Must have an Oregon Driver license and meet the City of Salem's driving standards.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Civil Engineering or a related field, and twelve years of experience in Civil Engineering or a related field, or any combination of experience and training that demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities as listed, and ability to perform the essential job functions.
- Professional Civil Engineer License required (Comity to obtain a State of Oregon license required within one year of appointment to the position).
