The Regulatory Affairs department is seeking a Laboratory Technician. This position collects, records, preserves, and transports samples from field locations to the laboratory; performs basic chemical analyses; supports laboratory functions with proper cleaning, labeling, and documentation procedures.
Essential Functions
(The essential functions listed below are not intended to reflect all duties that may be assigned to this classification. The District may augment duties and/or essential functions at its discretion. Additionally, some incumbents may not perform all Essential Functions.)
- Collect samples and perform field analyses at industrial, stormwater, municipal wastewater, and watershed monitoring sites; label, preserve, split samples; install, program, and maintain monitoring and sampling equipment; and maintain chain of custody requirements according to prescribed procedures.
- Perform basic laboratory analyses such as, but not limited to: pH, alkalinity, conductivity, turbidity, solids, and E. coli; including preparation of reagents and standards.
- Clean, wash, and maintain laboratory equipment and glassware according to Standard Operating Procedures.
- Perform data entry, sample log-in, container labeling, and documentation.
- Adhere to established QA/QC standards and accepted laboratory procedures.
- Train in the performance of complex manual and instrumental analyses.
- Drive a District vehicle for work related purposes.

KNOWLEDGE OF:

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required KSA’s would be:
6 months performing similar work in field and laboratory environments.
High School Diploma or equivalent, and college coursework in chemistry, biology, microbiology, or closely related science.
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS
Must possess and maintain a valid State issued driver's license at time of appointment.
