Clark College is currently accepting applications for multiple part-time, permanent hourly Classified Retail Clerk 2 positions in the bookstore. This position supports the functions of the main campus bookstore. The areas that new hires may work in are cashier, textbooks, receiving, web processing, and general merchandising.

The hours these positions may work will vary depending on the quarterly fluctuations and may be scheduled between 0 and 30 hours in a work week, Monday – Friday during the hours of 6:30am to 6:30pm with the possibility of occasional evening and/or weekend shifts. This work may be sporadic. During peak times, such as start of term, work will be more frequent. During slower times, there may be weeks with little to no work hours (example: we may work you the first two weeks of the term several days but have no hours for you for several weeks following).

Position Responsibilities

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Greet, welcome, and assist all store guests
  • Provide exemplary customer service to a diverse population: In person, over phone, via email
  • Process sales transactions, web orders and refunds, including complex and nuanced transactions
  • May oversee and direct store staff
  • Assist supervisors with data entry, purchasing, record keeping, inventory, receiving, and other clerical support, as directed
  • Be knowledgeable and informed regarding products and services offered by each department and the store
  • Set up, stock, and move merchandise displays and fixtures
  • Set textbook shelves & pull merchandise from shelves for vendor returns 
  • Help with store/textbook inventory practices and Book Buyback activities and processes. 
  • Assist with student inquiries about books/course materials
  • May receive and prepare retail merchandise for selling online and/or in store
  • May make deliveries and place marketing materials around campus, pick up merchandise at off-campus vendors
  • Prepare daily deposits and maintain financial records, as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

POSITION REQUIREMENTS AND COMPETENCIES:
Candidates will be evaluated based on application materials, including the supplemental questions and personal interview(s), and will be required to demonstrate competencies in the following areas:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Proficiency and a working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications: Word, and Outlook
  • Proficiency and a working knowledge of internet navigation with varied search engines
  • Reliable transportation to and from work

JOB READINESS/WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Flexibility and willingness to work a variety of hours to meet business needs 
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines, while maintaining accuracy, attention to details, and follow instructions and established processes.
  • Ability and willingness to bend/stoop/stand/sit for the length of the shift and lift up to 50lbs
  • Ability to maintain the cleanliness and presentation standards of the business
  • Ability to learn and operate the inventory management system as it relates to duties
  • Ability and willingness to learn new processes as it relates to duties
  • Ability to work well with people of all ages from academically, culturally, and socioeconomically diverse backgrounds.
  • The initial appointment will include a 6-month probationary period and the employee will earn permanent status after successfully completing probation.  
  • This position is represented by Washington Public Employees Association. 
  • Prior to a new hire, a background check including criminal record history will be conducted which includes a sexual misconduct background check as required under RCW 28B.112.080. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant’s suitability and competence to perform in the position.

 

Supplemental Information

SALARY RANGE: $17.40-$22.98/hour. | Step A-M | Range: 34 | Code: 227G
Successful candidates typically start at the beginning of the salary range and receive scheduled salary increment increases.
