Are you passionate about municipal infrastructure and civil engineering? Do you enjoy working outdoors on a variety of construction projects. Do you like working with a wide range of people on diverse project teams?

The City of Milwaukie's engineering team is seeking an Engineering Technician to perform a range of civil engineering tasks for private development and capital improvement projects. Our Engineering Technicians provide engineering assistance for local developers, regulatory agencies, the general public and more. Typical duties include construction inspections; administering and managing construction permits; assisting developers and the general public with City codes, policies and procedures; data collection and analysis; and other engineering related tasks.

Key skills include knowledge of common construction practices; ability to read and interpret construction documents; ability to inspect construction projects for conformance with City Standards; ability to process and maintain permits related to construction; ability to operate and maintain field equipment such as traffic counters and other instruments; ability to collect and analyze engineering data; strong interpersonal communication skills; ability to work with public officials, maintenance staff, developers, consultants, planners, engineers, the general public, and other important stakeholders.

Depending on qualifications, this position may be filled at either the Engineering Technician I or II level. Those hired at the Engineering Tech I level will work toward the licensing and certification requirements of the Engineering Tech II.

Hybrid Work Options:
This job class is not eligible for remote or hybrid work options in accordance with the city's telework policy.

Compensation:
The salary range for this overtime-eligible union represented position is $5,023 ' 6,415 per month. The starting pay assignment, based on an analysis of the successful candidate's related experience and education as documented on the employment application in accordance with the city's pay equity policy  and the Oregon Equal Pay Act, would be no higher than $6,111 per month.

If appointed as Engineering Technician I, also overtime-eligible and union represented, the salary range is $4,555 ' 5,815 per month. The starting pay assignment, based on an analysis of the successful candidate's related experience and education as documented on the employment application in accordance with the city's pay equity policy and the Oregon Equal Pay Act, would be no higher than $5,538 per month.
