Title: Staff Accountant

Position Type: Full-Time Hourly, Non-Exempt

Pay Range: $29.80 - $32.93/hour

Location: Portland, Oregon (Hybrid)

As an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit, we collaborate closely with the Oregon Zoo, which is owned and operated by Metro regional government. Together, we raise funds for strategic zoo programs and capital projects, advocating for the zoo's mission and creating meaningful change for wildlife.

Your New Role: Staff Accountant

Are you ready to take your accounting skills to the next level while making a difference? As our Staff Accountant, you will be an integral part of our finance team, ensuring the financial health of our organization so we can continue our vital work for wildlife. You'll handle a variety of important accounting tasks, assist with financial reporting, and support the Director of Finance and Operations in maintaining our financial systems. Your work will directly impact our ability to fund transformative zoo programs and projects.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage accounts receivable and payable, ensuring accurate and timely processing

• Clear prepaid accounts and maintain credit card reconciliations monthly

• Perform monthly bank account reconciliations and ensure accuracy in financial statements

• Provide administrative support as needed to ensure smooth financial operations

• Assist with month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring all records are up-to-date

• Reconcile investment accounts and assess internal procedures, recommending improvements

• Collaborate with outside auditors, providing necessary documentation for the annual audit

• Maintain the general ledger and support the development of the annual operating budget

• Assist with payroll processing and review, as well as preparing tax statements and financial records

What We're Looking For:

• A strong background in nonprofit accounting

• A Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field

• At least 2 years of experience in accounting or a related field

• Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word)

• Exceptional mathematical and analytical skills, with a keen attention to detail

• A high degree of integrity, especially when handling confidential materials
