The Role:

Perform design engineering and oversee construction coordination of projects requiring a higher level of project management and/or technical knowledge. Provide design and project management expertise for NW Natural’s large commercial and industrial meter sets, district regulating stations, telemetry sites, and city gate station projects. Ensure service continuity and fulfillment of installation commitments while meeting customer needs, cost objectives, governmental requirements, and safety and engineering standards.

Day to Day:

  • Performs and oversees design engineering, planning, coordination, and monitoring of projects related to plants and stations. Provides cost analysis of alternatives to determine cost effective installation practices.
  • Proactively identifies risks and implement mitigation strategies to ensure timely and successful project completion.
  • Provides design and project management expertise for NW Natural’s gas storage facilities, compressors, control systems, odorization, and CNG/LNG equipment.
  • Provides engineering support for special projects, including hydrogen and renewable natural gas projects as needed.
  • Reviews and approves construction drawings within the territory to ensure engineering standards are followed. Coordinates with office and field personnel to optimize the use of resources.
  • Provides day-to-day engineering support to field operations while maintaining project workload.
  • Works closely with telecommunications experts and other technical specialists within the organization, fostering a collaborative environment.
  • Assists in preparing budget, analyzing costs/benefits; continuously evaluates cost reduction and revenue enhancement opportunities.
  • Develops alternative engineering solutions to proposed projects to inform cost based decision makers.
  • Participates in after-hour emergency response program in conjunction with other operations supervisors as needed (level 3).
  • This position may require travel.

Come on your first day with:

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering, preferably mechanical or civil engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Engineering (Level 2) requires a minimum 3 years of experience Engineering (Level 3) requires a minimum of 5+ years of experience
  • Ability to register as a Professional Engineer (PE) is highly desired.
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience in construction-related work required or utility construction/installation.
  • Demonstrated experience in a leadership role overseeing and coordinating complex planning and project implementation programs.
  • Ability to plan and effectively manage a wide variety of construction projects.
  • Demonstrated skill in organizing multiple tasks and managing time effectively to meet deadlines and balance priorities consistent with Company strategies and goals.
  • Knowledge and experience in the application of the following: federal pipeline safety rules, American Public Works Association, construction standards, and OSHA regulations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with employees, government representatives and contractor personnel on technical matters governing construction projects.
  • Ability to analyze budget reports and construction summaries.
  • Ability to understand and utilize 2D ACAD software.
  • Ability to learn Synergy software to perform system modeling analysis.
  • Ability to develop new construction approaches and procedures.
  • Strong writing skills including technical documentation and report preparation.
  • Ability to visit and access construction and other work site locations as required.
  • Possess/maintain a valid Oregon or Washington driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.
  • Subject to random drug testing.

Base salary range: $86,500.00 - $123,250.00 (Level 2) or $107,500.00 - $153,200.00 (Level 3) per year, depending on qualifications

Annual Target Incentive: Level 2, 9.5% target
Level 3, 12.0% target
Targets are calculated using eligible earnings during plan year participation. Payout, if earned, is based on company and individual performance for each plan year and may range from 0% – 200% of target. Targets are subject to change in subsequent plan years. Must be employed by September 30 in order to receive any prorated payout.
