The Janitorial Workforce Trainer plays a critical role in the retention of new janitors within the first 90 days of employment and works directly with key stakeholders to strengthen retention through continued development, coaching, and field support. The Janitorial Workforce Trainer is responsible for both classroom and onsite training of core janitorial skills, as well as the supervision of janitorial trainees at Relay’s main campus, interim training sites, and customer sites. Through workforce planning and development, trainers develop and empower Relay employees to continue employment advancement through hands-on training, soft skill training, motivation, empathy, and compassion.
Training:
- Work directly and in many cases, side-by-side with trainees and janitors that are receiving training and continued development. This will require the full ability to do the work of a janitor and engage in the necessary physical requirements of the job.
- Works directly with key stakeholders to effectively train new hires and retrain existing employee. This includes ability and willingness to travel to out of area sites for special training projects.
- Is responsible for the cleanliness and organization of training sites.
Ability to facilitate all phases of training from a classroom setting to onsite training. - Holds themselves and others accountable and provides direct feedback for job performance, outcomes, and Relay acceptable behaviors.
- Occasionally supports operational needs such as short-term field support for buildings, helping with large organizational initiatives, transportation, weather, emergency needs, as well as others to be determined.
- Uses down time as a method to grow in the skill and craft of training others as well as continuing to grow in industry experience and knowledge.
- Able to understand, edit, implement, and create route sheets where appropriate.
- Help identify needs for accommodations, vet potential accommodations, and coordinate the implementation of accommodations for trainees.
- Prepare and maintain trainees’ records and documents.
- Actively participates in training department meetings, including sharing observations and ideas for improvements.
- Track and report trainee progress, including completion of weekly progress reports for each trainee.
- Document re-training, coaching, and wellness check done in the field.

- Is trained in Relay’s and relevant industry procedures, processes, methods, products, equipment, and other relevant industry essentials.
- Trained and certified in agreed upon third-party janitorial training programs as well as disability and emotional support programs; actively engages in continued development and continued training opportunities.
- Two or more years’ teaching or training experience strongly preferred
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities preferred
- Professional janitorial experience necessary
- Excellent interpersonal skills; must genuinely like interacting with a diverse population
- Commitment to working with people with disabilities and other marginalized populations
- Remain up to date on all safety procedures and guidelines and ensure others are following proper procedures and guidelines.
- ASL and/or foreign language skills fluency required
- Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with a diverse population
- Experience with computers and standard office programs; experience with Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook preferred.
- Driving is an essential function of the job, and presence at different worksites with the ability to work flexible hours is required.
- Bilingual preferred.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable automobile, safe driving record, and insurance coverage acceptable to Relay Resources' insurance carrier.
