Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District (THPRD) is searching for a Community Engagement Specialist. This position is responsible for connecting and communicating with THPRD's diverse population on a variety of park and recreation efforts.

The position assists with planning, organizing and facilitating public engagement events and activities for the district, with a special emphasis on Park Services Division efforts such as planning, design and development, maintenance and sustainability efforts, in addition to district-wide communication priorities.

The ideal candidate is a creative, team-oriented individual with a passion for community engagement and a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, access, and social justice work. They excel at building positive relationships within and outside the organization, they can manage multiple projects, and they are great at creating engaging content that connects with and reflects the diverse needs of our community.

The typical schedule for this position is Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with occasional evenings and weekends required based on organizational and seasonal needs. Staff can flex their time accordingly. This position is based out of the HMT Administration building with the opportunity to work a hybrid schedule after initial training period.

Essential Job Functions:


'¢ Plan and coordinate the activities of district programs or projects related to community engagement for design & development, planning, communications, equity & engagement, maintenance, and sustainability departments.

'¢ Work as part of a team of employees focused on diversity, equity, inclusion, access, and community outreach.

'¢ Coordinate and track the activities of multiple projects with other district staff, departments and with other community and government agencies; serve as liaison to internal committees, private industry, the communities and other government agencies.

'¢ Review and document the progress and effectiveness of all public engagement, cultural and social service partnerships.

'¢ Conduct public relations and outreach activities including outreach with traditionally underrepresented populations, recruit volunteers, develop resources within the community, and provide information regarding activities of the departments to the public, community groups, and agencies.

'¢ Develop and distribute pamphlets, flyers, newsletters, press releases, social media posts, website updates and other content to promote department activities and events.

'¢ Create and maintain records of individuals, community groups, and organizations on a district partnership and engagement databases.

'¢ Develop and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

'¢ Serve on or provide support to a variety of committees, task forces or groups as necessary.

Education and Experience:

Any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that would likely provide the applicant with the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

An associate degree in a related field, or equivalent work-life experience, and a minimum of three (3) years of experience developing and implementing broad-based outreach strategies in community engagement, communications, and/or park or urban planning.

The district provides a bilingual pay incentive to staff who regularly use their bilingual or multilingual skills!

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Valid Oregon driver's license, good driving record

  • Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP) preferred
