This is a chance to work on the Blue Line Station Rehabilitation program (BLSR): this program includes the design and construction of renovations of the original Max Stations that began service in the 1980's. In addition, you'll have the opportunity to work on Rail Crossing Safety Enhancements (RCSE): a program that includes safety enhancements for all modes of transportation with a heavy focus on pedestrian safety (lighting, signage, walkway channelization, pedestrian signal flashers, and other civil improvements).
TriMet's Internships are excellent opportunities to build skills, gain experience, develop connections with industry professionals and develop work samples for a portfolio. Relevant experience is useful, but most important is a willingness and excitement to learn.
This Internship is performed in-person. Applicants must be available to work in-person in the Portland Metro region of Oregon.

Serve as a good steward of TriMet by regularly utilizing our transit system to maintain a strong and current understanding of customers’ experiences and of TriMet’s product and service offerings.
Essential Functions
- Conceptualize urban design relationships between project components and related adopted land use in Portland and surrounding areas.
- Participate in conceptual design meetings. Help our team on creative problem solving tasks.
- Assisting in organized and research plausible adaptive reuses
- Assist in preparations for community outreach events.
- Track geometry and condition testing
- Perform elementary engineering and urban design assignments
- Compile and analyze Data.
- Perform design computations
- Prepare engineering and urban design concept plans
- Review assigned work plans
- Estimate time and materials to complete orders
- Complete Orders
- Shadow and help staff during project meetings
Position Requirements
- Must be a current or incoming Junior or Senior working on a college degree in a related field (Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Architecture, Landscape Architecture or Urban Planning and design), or a recent Graduate within the last 12 months.
- Must be computer literate (strong working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel) and have experience in AutoCAD software. Experience with In-design, Adobe creative suite, infraworks, bluebeam, and other design software desirable, but not required.
- Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Self-direction, good organizational skills, detail-oriented, ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet weekly deadlines.
- Must be flexible with a desire to work with multiple stakeholders on complex projects in a fast paced environment.
