Work Hours: Monday – Friday 1:00p.m.-9:00p.m., Weekends when needed

Supervisor: Campus Operations & Safety Manager
2. POSITION SUMMARY
The Custodial and Event Services Assistant plays a vital role in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for all students, staff, and visitors. This position is responsible for custodial duties across campus facilities and provides support for the setup, breakdown, and logistical coordination of campus events. The work environment involves physical labor and interactions with a variety of campus departments and individuals as well as exposure to cleaning chemicals, loud noises, and varying weather conditions.
3. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Custodial Duties (75%)
Cleaning & Maintenance:
- Perform daily cleaning of classrooms, offices, restrooms, hallways, and common areas.
- Clean and disinfect restrooms, replenish/restock supplies (soap, toilet paper, paper towels), and ensure proper waste disposal.
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, and polish floors as needed.
- Empty trash and recycling bins, ensuring proper disposal and adherence to sustainability practices.
- Perform deep-cleaning duties as scheduled, including carpet cleaning, window washing, and floor polishing
Facility Upkeep & Safety:
- Ensure janitorial supplies are stocked and report any shortages to the Campus Operations.
- Monitor and report any maintenance issues (e.g., leaks, broken fixtures, HVAC concerns) to appropriate personnel.
- Follow safety protocols, including proper use of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
- Assist in setting up and breaking down rooms for special events, meetings, and conferences.
- Respond promptly to urgent cleaning needs (e.g., spills, accidents, weather-related concerns).
Compliance & Environmental Practices:
- Follow all university policies and procedures related to cleaning and safety.
- Adhere to OSHA regulations and guidelines regarding workplace safety and hazardous materials.
- Support UWS’s commitment to sustainability by using eco-friendly cleaning products and participating in recycling initiatives.
Event Support (20%)
- Set up and break down tables, chairs, AV equipment, signage, and other event-related materials.
- Ensure spaces are clean and organized before, during, and after events.
- Assist with event logistics, including furniture arrangement and equipment placement.
- Coordinate with event organizers and facilities staff to meet event setup requirements and timelines.
- Monitor event spaces for cleanliness and functionality throughout events.

5. REQUIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Training: High school diploma or equivalent
Experience: Previous janitorial, custodial, or housekeeping experience preferred.
Related Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Knowledge of cleaning techniques, safety procedures, and proper use of janitorial equipment.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, bend, stoop, and be on feet for extended periods.
