JOB TITLE: Care Team Support Medical Assistant
SUPERVISOR: BVT Nursing Supervisor
HOURS PER WEEK: 40hrs/Non-Exempt (M-F 8:00am-5:00pm)
DEPARTMENT: Clinical
HIRING BONUS: $1,000 after 90 days

PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Medical Assistant (MA), based in the Primary Care department, will provide essential support to the clinic by handling patient phone calls, electronic in-basket tasks, and other administrative responsibilities. This position will provide backup support for patient rooming when needed and work closely with other clinical team members to ensure timely patient care and seamless clinical workflows.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (*ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)
1. Answer and manage patient phone calls appropriately and in a timely manner, following approved protocols. *
2. Use the Trigger Situation Protocol to appropriately resolve and route calls, ensuring patient concerns are addressed in a timely manner. *
3. Appropriately escalate calls to triage nurses according to the protocol, ensuring urgent matters receive prompt attention. *
4. Provides in-basket support for primary care. Handle a variety of in-basket tasks efficiently and accurately, including reviewing and responding to MyChart messages, completion of provider assigned tasks, patient letters, expiring orders, etc. Prioritizing based on clinic need and urgency. Includes support for all primary care locations. *
5. Collaborate with MAs and RNs in assigned pools to efficiently manage workload and ensure seamless patient care. *
6. Prepare patients for exam or treatment by proper set up of the exam/treatment room and rooming the patient utilizing The Portland Clinic’s (TPC) rooming protocol, including accurate measurement of vital signs and complete documentation in the electronic health record (EHR).*
7. Schedule patient appointments. *
8. Assist in the completion of referrals and prior authorizations in a timely and accurate manner, as needed. *
9. Maintain proper and detailed documentation in the EHR, following clinic guidelines. *
10. Work closely with clinic RNs, seeking their guidance on patient care situations and escalating issues appropriately. *
11. Assist in quality improvement initiatives, identifying areas for system efficiency improvements and implementing solutions as directed by the supervisor.
12. Adhere to HIPAA regulations at all times, ensuring patient confidentiality and privacy. *
13. Follow clinic safety standards, including proper use of safety equipment, knowledge of emergency procedures, and adherence to body mechanics and ergonomic practices. *
14. Comply with all clinic policies regarding patient care, safety, and regulatory compliance. *
15. Participate in clinic meetings, nursing department in-services, and team training to enhance skills and contribute to team goals. *
16. Provide support to team members, assisting with training and mentoring as needed.
17. Maintain clear communication with the supervisor, providing updates on workload, challenges, and patient care issues. *
18. Maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality in all interactions with patients, providers, and colleagues. *
19. Other duties as assigned.
20. Maintain regular, in person, work attendance and punctuality, as scheduled.*
REQUIREMENTS:
? Current Medical Assistant Certification or must fulfill the requirements for Certification within 90 days from your date of hire. If met, you must also provide proof of having been issued MA Certification within 120 days of your date of hire, -OR- current Oregon Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) license (basic or advance) and national EMT registration with the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT). Once certification is in place, it must remain active.

? Current American Heart Association (AHA) CPR Certification
EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS PREFERRED:
? Previous experience in ambulatory care

? Oral communication skills and excellent phone etiquette with an ability to convey and receive information via the telephone
? Competency in language, grammar, and spelling
