The Education Faculty position plays a vital role in the development and teaching of courses in both the Bachelor of Applied Science in Teacher Education (BAS-TE) and the Associate of Applied Science in Education programs. We are specifically seeking educators with expertise in English Language Learner (ELL) education, including knowledge of second-language acquisition, strategies for teaching multilingual learners, and experience working with English language learners in educational settings. The Faculty position is 173 contract days (fall, winter, spring) with an anticipated start of September 2025 and reports to the Director of Education, New Program Development, & Educational Partnership. Courses are delivered through multiple modalities including online, hybrid, and in-person. The Education Faculty will have a flexible schedule including teaching in-person classes in the evenings two days/week, going onsite to school districts, and working on campus, and remotely if desired. The salary range is $75,160 to $97,409 based on education and experience. Please note the salary amount within this posting is reflective of the 2024-25 salary amounts and does not include any legislatively funded COLA for the 2025-26 year. For applicants relocating to Washington, we are able to provide up to $5,000 in relocation funds in accordance with our travel policies.

Examples of Duties & Responsibilities

 

  • Impart expertise, enthusiasm, and creativity in the instruction of education courses to a diverse student population with various learning styles and abilities. 
  • Teach ELL and elementary education courses, and supervise field experience courses with a focus on supporting populations that are culturally, linguistically, and ability-diverse and with practices that are grounded in sound developmental theory and teaching methodology. 
  • Work with the BAS-TE Field Placement Officer to coordinate ELL field placements, including recruiting and developing field placement opportunities with input from faculty, students, and community partners. 
  • Effectively prepare and present course content, drawing upon disciplinary knowledge, skills, theories, issues, research, and applications to design engaging and effective learning experiences. 
  • Demonstrate multicultural competence, including an awareness and understanding of historically disadvantaged populations, and create an educational environment that affirms commitment to equity and diversity. 
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with ELL community partners including mentor teachers, school principals, and other school district staff. 
  • Provide quality instruction in various settings (classroom, online, field experience sites) adapting to a variety of teaching/learning situations while maintaining an effective learning environment. 
  • Collaborate with other faculty to ensure that ELL course experiences and field experiences align with both state competencies and best practices. 
  • Demonstrate knowledge of state and federal laws related to multilingual learners, including Washington State regulations, Title IX of the Civil Rights Act, and the Equal Educational Opportunities Act (EEOA), as well as state-mandated assessment requirements for multilingual learners. 
  • Competently incorporate instructional technologies in course delivery. 
  • Seek and promote opportunities for student learning and critical thinking. 
  • Assess, evaluate, and document student learning and achievement of course outcomes. 
  • Provide individualized support to promote student success. 
  • Provide verbal and written feedback to students in a timely manner, including the grading of assignments. 
  • Maintain currency of course content and materials, including course syllabi. 
  • Effectively interact with supervisors, colleagues, and staff as a member of the educational team. 
  • As part of college service, perform outreach for the Education programs to prospective students. 
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships within the community, related to ELL teaching responsibilities.
  • Fulfill Washington State vocational certification requirements. 
  • Maintain current knowledge of state ELL endorsement competencies and requirements. 
  • Establish and maintain office hours; be available for student consultation. 
  • Perform ongoing student, program, and college assessment activities, including analysis of course assessments, evaluations, and data to engage in continuous improvement to enhance student success, retention, and completion.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Faculty Advising Responsibilities: 

  • Provide academic advising, guidance and information regarding the program, admissions process, registration procedures, prerequisites, links to financial aid and student support services to current and future students. 
  • Advise students participating in paraeducator apprenticeship programs in partnership with local school districts. 
  • Maintain and update educational plans for each student. 
  • Participate in advising sessions for new students as applicable

Typical Qualifications

 

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Master’s degree in Education, Teaching, or a related field of study from an accredited institution. 
  • Commitment to serve the needs of adult learners who represent a broad spectrum of ages, abilities, ethnicity, education, and cultural backgrounds 
  • Teacher Certification with English Language Learners (ELL) endorsement. 
  • Three (3) years full-time equivalent (FTE) professional practice/work-experience as a certificated teacher of record in k-12 education. 
  • Experience using technology to enhance work (MS Office Suite, Google and video conferencing platforms). 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Current Washington State teacher certification 
  • ELL-related work experience 
  • Experience teaching adults at the college level. 
  • Experience mentoring students participating in field-based learning experiences. 
  • Experience in program development and assessment.
  • Experience in curriculum development. 
  • Expertise using a Learning Management System such as Canvas and using technology to enhance student learning.
