What you will do:
A Facility HVAC Technician maintains heating, ventilating, and air conditioning units throughout City temperature-controlled commercial space. This includes installing, maintaining, and repairing all parts and systems related to commercial refrigeration, freezers, air conditioners, heating, and ventilating equipment, cooling tower system, steam and hot water heating units. pneumatic and electrical controls. pumps, fans, belts, filters, water and steam valves, electric motors, and air compressors.
You will install, calibrate, test, and repair electronic control devices including automated building energy management systems at various City facilities for centralized monitoring of facility operations and data collecting. You will also prepare project cost estimates and assist with evaluating bids and price quotes. Use of a personal computer, tablet or smartphone to view and enter data, maintain appropriate logs in accordance with EPA and City standards, and manager service records, schematics, timesheets, purchase documents, and related materials is essential. You may also direct and train other maintenance personnel in boiler repairs, overhauls and HVAC maintenance.

What are the minimum qualifications?
- Must pass the pre-employment background check and physical exam.
- Must have an Oregon Driver license and meet the City of Salem's driving standards.
- High school graduate or trade school supplemented by the completion of technical courses in heating systems, ventilating systems, air conditioning systems, pump repair, basic electricity/electronics, or related subjects to the position being filled, and five years of experience in facility refrigeration systems, air conditioning maintenance and repair, and HVAC related systems of facilities or mechanical equipment systems, or any combination of experience and training that demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities as listed, and ability to perform the essential job functions.
- Must pass criminal background check necessary to obtain Criminal Justice Information System clearance and Law Enforcement Data System certification within 30 days of hire (clearance must be maintained throughout employment).
- Currently possess or ability to obtain EPA 608 Universal certification and Brazing certification within six months of hire.
- Limited Energy Technician Class B (LEB) Certification highly desirable.
