Overview: The Small Business Outreach Sr. Manager will develop, coordinate, and execute strategies to increase small businesses' awareness of client opportunities. They will serve as a critical liaison between D/MWESB and SBO and other small business firms, Espousal Strategies and its clients.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop, coordinate and actively participate in events, promotions and other outreach activities to support and strengthen relationships with regional small business owners, specifically Disadvantaged Business Enterprises (DBEs).
  • Manage and coordinate clear, consistent and timely communication with project team, leadership, and all project stakeholders.
  • Write content for a variety of platforms and mediums including, but not limited to, social media, website development and maintenance, videography and photography, marketing, media relations, and / or graphic design.
  • Actively strive to meet deadlines, navigate project budget constraints and emergent needs of the project, with the willingness to adjust strategy, timelines, and activities to maintain a positive outcome
  • Conduct communication audits, interviewing and surveying stakeholders, analyzing results and providing best-practice recommendations
  • Develop, organize, and facilitate or co-facilitate discussion groups, workshops, trainings, roundtables, and other events (virtually or in person as appropriate)

  • Manage and oversee community assigned engagement project activities, ensuring all deliverables are achieved according to schedule.
  • Maintain accurate and up to date database of small business owners, influential community members, and partner organizations.
  • Accurately track all activities for project reporting requirements
  • Remain current in understanding of community engagement activities, associations and coalitions, DEI industry trends and best practices, with specific attention to innovative, creative, and cutting-edge ideas. In collaboration with leadership, incorporate up to date DEI best practices into community outreach and communication activities.
  • Represent Espousal Strategies in a positive and professional manner to stakeholders, clients, peers, public officials, community groups, and other business partners. Attend business related functions as requested by the President.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership with on-going reports on communications and community engagement progress and plans, on at least a monthly basis.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • A passion to engage BIPOC owned businesses and other marginalized communities in various efforts including public infrastructure projects.
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills. The ability to create succinct and engaging communications targeted to specific and general audiences

• Effectively use database, social media, and other tools for targeted outreach and engagement.

  • Excellent presentation, and training skills. The ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of populations, in a persuasive and collaborative manner.
  • Excellent community and partnership feedback analysis skills, with the ability to accurately review and synthesize feedback and date. The ability to disseminate information into succinct and meaningful reports. The ability to collect accurate data from survey groups.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and project management skills.
  • Ability to multi-task efficiently and switch priorities as needed. Ability to work calmly and effectively under deadline.
  • Ability to create, monitor, and adhere to a fiscally responsible budget.
  • Ability to work autonomously and be self-directed.
  • Cooperative & collaborative team member. Ability to communicate in a professional and respectful manner with all clients, co-workers, stakeholders, community members, public officials, and other business partners.
  • Demonstrates a positive attitude in the office regarding work assignments, team work, and company mission.
  • Proficient in standard office procedures, software, and communications technology.
  • Excellent understanding of DEI principals and best practices. The ability to research and stay abreast of new industry developments, trends, and best practices.
  • Passion for the principals of diversity, equity, and inclusion, and the mission of Espousal Strategies.


Working Conditions/Physical Demands:

Work is usually performed in an indoor office environment, or remote home office environment, with long periods at a desk. Work is oriented to community service and subject to constant work interruptions. Position requires the employee to regularly facilitate meetings and deliver presentations to community members, and other business partners, in both small and large groups. Employees may work under the stress of continual contact from clients, community members, co-workers and business partners, and the pressure to meet deadlines. Requires flexible work schedule and may be required to work evenings and weekends. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Position may require the ability to travel regionally for work activities.
