The Oregon Department of Corrections is seeking a highly skilled Electrician 2 to support the Facilities Communication Infrastructure at the Snake River Correctional Institution. This position is a limited duration anticipated to last 12 months, though, may be extended or decreased due to business need. Internal candidates may be considered as a job rotation with their current manager's approval.
About the Job – Your Role
As the Electrician 2 for the Department, you will install maintain, repair and replace electrical, physical electronic security, information, communication, wireless, standby, and distribution systems within minimum-security correctional facilities. This position also assists the Electrician 2 staff at the facilities, ensuring proper operation of electrical and security systems critical to facility safety and functionality.
The Electrician 2 serves as a liaison between Facilities Services and institution Physical Plant staff, providing expertise on repair programs and electrical system maintenance. This position requires journey-level trade skills and the ability to work within a secure correctional environment while adhering to safety and security protocols.
This position is represented by American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME). This position may be eligible for Police & Fire (P&F) benefits through Public Employees Retirement System (PERS), as defined by statute.
Minimum Qualifications
A General Journeyman Electrical license. Be sure a copy of your license is attached to your application form.
Requested Skills
- Clear understanding of installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical wiring, circuits, breakers, transformers, and distribution systems;
- Experience working with access control systems, surveillance cameras, motion, sensors, and perimeter security;
- Knowledge of network cabling, wireless communication systems, and standby power systems (UPS, generators, etc.);
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC) systems, emergency generators and backup power supplies;
- Strong understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC), OSHA regulations, and state electrical standards;
- Experience managing projects, coordinating with contractors, and ensuring work is completed on time and within budget.

The salary range listed above is for non-PERS qualifying applicants. PERS qualifying applicants may be eligible for an adjusted range to reflect an additional 6.95%.
