Position Overview:

Are you a training professional who understands how to guide organizations through growth and change with exceptional training programs? Do you like researching and designing a variety of training classes and curriculum for a diverse audience? This new position of Curriculum Development Manager will lead the development, implementation, evaluation and ongoing compliance of all training for sworn and civilian staff for MCSO. This role is critical in ensuring our members receive the highest quality training, equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to serve our community safely, effectively and professionally. As the Manager of Curriculum Development, you will be responsible for translating high-level initiatives directed by the Sheriff and Sheriff’s Office senior management into viable agency wide programs; stay current on certification standards and best practices in public safety training; manage a budget for curriculum development and implementation; and collaborate with internal and external subject matter experts. This position will work closely with a team of sworn/uniformed employees, as well as civilian employees, on a daily basis.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Research, design, develop and maintain curriculum and training for MCSO that aligns with organizational needs and incorporates best practices within the relevant topic area while reaching diverse audiences. This includes training for Law Enforcement, Corrections, management, and civilian staff.
  • Evaluate goals, objectives, priorities, and activities to improve performance and outcomes; recommend and establish administrative controls and improvements.
  • Develop procedures to implement new and/or changing regulatory requirements.
  • Act as a resource, and provide direction, guidance, leadership and support to the Training Unit in accomplishing tasks related to curriculum and delivery of course content.
  • Maintain historical documentation of trainings, curriculum, and training requirements.
  • Oversee the satellite instructor program, which supports and supplements full-time Training Unit staff, and provides training and instruction on a variety of topics.
  • Represent MCSO on internal and external committees, interagency task forces, special projects, and other community outreach activities.
  • Provide overall budget management for the Curriculum Development Team which includes developing budget justifications, forecasting for additional funds when needed, identifying, obtaining, and managing funding from grants and community partners, coordinating the finalization of budgets, to ensuring timely submission.

To Qualify

We will consider any combination of relevant work experience, volunteering, education, and transferable skills as qualifying unless an item or section is labeled required. Please be clear and specific about how your background is relevant. 

 

Minimum Qualifications/Transferable Skills:

  • Equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree. In lieu of a degree, additional qualifying experience will be considered on a year-for-year basis.
  • Must have at least three (3) years of experience developing and implementing training programs.
  • Must have at least one (1) year of experience teaching, training, and/or delivering learning content to adults.
  • Must have at least one (1) year of experience in budget development, management, oversight, forecasting and administration.
  • Must pass a thorough background investigation which includes, but is not limited to a review of the applicant’s criminal, civil, driving, military, educational, and employment history.

 

Preferred Qualifications/Transferable Skills: You do not need to have the following preferred qualifications/transferable skills to qualify. However, keep in mind we may consider some or all of the following when identifying the most qualified candidates.   • Experience working with law enforcement or corrections agencies

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

This recruitment may be used to fill full-time, part-time, temporary, limited-duration, and on-call positions.

Type of Position: Salaried, exempt, non-represented.

Schedule: Day shift. Option of working 4x10’s or 5x8’s. Because we are a 24/7/365 agency, there may be need on occasion for you to work outside your standard work hours.

Work Location: This position works onsite at the Portland Portal, 3083 NE 170th Place, Portland, OR 97230 and is eligible for ad-hoc (occasional) telework.

Equal Pay: Please be advised that the pay range listed for this position is intended to provide general guidance on the earning potential for the role. However, actual compensation will be determined in accordance with the Oregon Equal Pay Law and will take into account factors such as the candidate's relevant experience and education. Candidates should expect that initial offers will be made within the listed pay range and may not be at or near the top of the range.
