We help other state agencies do their jobs by taking care of buildings, services, and support that keep Oregon running smoothly. As a custodian, you’ll help make sure our buildings are safe, clean, and welcoming for everyone—from employees to the public.
What You’ll Do
As a custodian, your job will include:

Sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and spot-cleaning floors.

Cleaning and restocking restrooms, including sinks, toilets, and paper supplies.
-
Wiping down tables and chairs in breakrooms and kitchens, emptying trash and recycling.
-
Cleaning conference rooms, hallways, stairs, and entryways.
-
Sanitizing high-touch areas like door handles, drinking fountains, and railings.
-
Reporting building issues (like lights out or leaks) to your supervisor.
-
Using a computer and state-issued phone to get tasks and updates.
-
Helping with emergencies and weather-related cleanup when needed.
You’ll use eco-friendly products to keep spaces clean and safe, and you’ll be part of a team that supports each other every day.
Working Conditions

May work various shifts.

Long periods of standing and walking on hard floors.
-
Regular lifting, sliding, and emptying trash/recycling bins (up to 50 lbs).
-
Pushing/pulling vacuums (up to 20 lbs), backpack vacuums (up to 15 lbs), and carts (up to 30 lbs).
-
Frequent bending, reaching, twisting; occasional ladder use and short periods of heavy physical work.

Some outdoor work in bad weather.

Daily use of eco-friendly and disinfecting cleaning products.

What We Are Looking For
Minimum Qualifications:
-
Must be at least 18 years old.
-
Have at least 4 months of custodial work experience that included operating equipment needed to perform custodial duties.
-
Ability to push/pull heavy custodial equipment (and lift up to 50 pounds), crouch, stoop, bend, stand and/or walk for extended periods of time.

Can use basic computer programs.

Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to notice and take care of tasks before being asked.

Experience using small hand tools, green cleaning products, and ladders, with a focus on safety.

Experience cleaning large commercial buildings (such as offices or public buildings) and/or residential homes in a professional setting.

Experience regularly checking buildings to make sure they are clean and working properly, reporting any issues, and working as part of a team to complete daily tasks.
-
Good time management skills, with the demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks, stay organized, and complete work on time.
