What You’ll Do
As the Accounting Technician you’ll ensure accurate and compliant financial operations for the agency by processing financial transactions, maintaining fiscal accounts and records, and reconciling discrepancies. Your support provides reliable financial data for decision-making and ensures adherence to state and federal accounting standards.

This Is What You Need to Qualify

Two years of experience calculating, recording, and maintaining accounting information that must include coding transactions and checking them for propriety, balancing, and resolving discrepancies in computer edits; OR
-
One year of experience calculating, recording, and maintaining accounting information that must include coding transactions and checking them for propriety, balancing, and resolving discrepancies in computer edits AND at least 43 quarter (29 semester) credit hours from an accredited college, university, or vocational-technical school that includes 9 quarter (6 semester) credit hours in accounting*. Credit hours must include introductory level accounting courses* 1 and 2; OR

At least 94 quarter (62 semester) credit hours or an associate degree from an accredited college, university, or vocational-technical school that includes 12 quarter (8 semester) credit hours in accounting*. Credit hours must include introductory level accounting courses* 1 and 2 and may include any additional accounting courses* with “accounting” in the title.
Training or experience must include using a computer to enter, update, or retrieve information. *To receive credit for required courses, you may be requested to submit a photocopy of transcripts prior to hire. Agencies may specify additional qualifications depending on the individual job requirements.
The ideal candidate will possess the following desired skills and attributes:

Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Programs (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Word)

Proven ability to work under pressure and pivot to meet the changing needs of the work unit to meet both scheduled and unexpected deadlines.

Exceptional attention to detail, auditing skills, and demonstrated proficiency with creating and working with various reports.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a diverse audience to provide information in a clear, effective, and professional manner.

Ability to participate collaboratively as part of a team, as well as to work independently, seeking help when needed.

Knowledge and understanding of the Oregon Accounting Manual (OAM), SFMA and R*STARS is a plus.

Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of government accounting policies, reconciliation processes, and electronic transaction-based accounting processes and systems

The salary listed is the non-PERS qualifying salary range. If the successful candidate is PERS qualifying, the salary range will reflect an additional 6.95%.Review the Classification and Compensation page for more details on the classification, or you may visit our website for information on the job offer process following pay equity.

Employee will be required to possess and maintain a valid driver’s license issued by the state where the employee resides.

The successful candidate for this position must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility.

Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, there may be some felony convictions that could disqualify you for this position. However, having a felony record does not exclusively restrict you from being considered as an applicant.
