About Us

Grounded in a commitment to social justice, William Temple House has supported the mental, emotional, and physical health of tens of thousands of Portlanders since 1965. Our holistic approach acknowledges that human needs are interconnected, unique to each individual, and change over time. We offer free and low-cost counseling for adults and families, support for basic physical needs—such as free healthy food, hygiene items, and clothing—and referrals on request for utility assistance, transportation assistance and more. In addition to our services, we operate the William Temple House Thrift Store to help support our counseling and social services. We serve a wide variety of clients in our programs, including people who are immigrants, people of color, LGBTQIA+, younger, older, and with disabilities. We are proud of our reputation for providing quality support to people who otherwise may not have access to services.
