The Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District’s (THPRD), Conestoga Recreation and Aquatic Center is looking to find an innovative Program Coordinator to plan, organize, and implement programs including 9-month preschool, full-day summer camps and a variety of recreational programs throughout the year.  

As a program coordinator, you will work on specific projects critical to THPRD’s needs including participating with management and community groups in developing program goals, policies, and procedures. Successful applicants will have experience managing multiple programs and staff in rapidly changing environments. Experience successfully running summer camps, building metrics for program effectiveness and being the front-facing customer service expert for parents, campers, and patrons.    

The typical schedule for this position is Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm, however evenings and/or weekend hours are periodically needed to meet operational needs. Remote work is seldom available in this position.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Plans, organizes, and coordinates the activities of district programs or projects; develops work plans and schedules; monitors and evaluates program effectiveness in meeting established goals; participates with management and community groups in developing program goals, policies, and procedures; maintains program records; prepares reports on program operations.
  • Prepares recommendations for new programs and program changes, including developing program goals, policies, and procedures and explaining estimated fiscal and organizational impacts.
  • Oversees the work of program staff, volunteers, temporary, and/or contract employees; recruits and evaluates, provides training, assigns work, schedules and motivates seasonal and part-time employees to provide quality service to program participants.
  • Conducts public relations and outreach activities; recruits volunteers and donations; identifies and develops program resources in collaboration with community and private organizations; provides program information to the public, community groups, and agencies including developing and distributing publicity materials.

 

Education and Experience:

Any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that would likely provide the applicant with the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

A bachelor’s degree with a major in recreation or a related field, or equivalent work-life experience, and three (3) years of related experience. Lead work experience preferred.

 The district provides a bilingual pay incentive to staff who regularly use their bilingual or multilingual skills!

 Licenses and Certifications:

  • Possession of a valid First Aid certificate and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certificate.
  • Possession of a valid Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP) certification issued by the National Recreation and Park Association is desirable.

This recruitment will establish an eligibility list for current and future vacancies for Program Coordinator positions. This recruitment may remain open until filled and the eligibility list will be active for six months.
