At a Glance! Lower Columbia College is excited to announce an opportunity for a tenure track Computer Science Faculty position within our Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (BSCS) program. This role offers a unique opportunity to blend teaching, curriculum development, student advising, and program leadership. As a faculty member, you will teach undergraduate courses, primarily at the junior and senior levels, while developing a cutting-edge curriculum that is engaging and accessible to all students. You'll connect and engage with local high schools and community organizations to promote the program and recruit a diverse student body. We offer flexibility with class schedules, which may include days, evenings, and weekends based on program needs.

The Faculty position is 173 contract days (fall, winter, spring) with an anticipated start of September 2025. The Computer Science Faculty reports to the Dean of Instruction. Courses are delivered through multiple modalities including online, hybrid, and in-person. The salary range is $75,160 to $97,409 based on education and experience. Please note the salary amount within this posting is reflective of the 2024-25 salary amounts and does not include any legislatively funded COLA for the 2025-26 year. For applicants relocating to the LCC's service district, we are able to provide up to $5,000 in relocation funds in accordance with our travel policies.

Examples of Duties & Responsibilities

 

Computer Science Faculty Responsibilities

  • Designing and instructing courses in a manner that promotes student engagement and success for a racially and culturally diverse student population spanning a broad range of languages, identities, socioeconomic levels, and educational experiences 
  • Collaborating with colleagues to identify and close equity gaps, particularly regarding race and ethnicity towards a goal of increasing student success and completion in computer science 
  • Continuously innovating inclusive and active learning experiences (campus, online, hybrid) in response to assessment and evidence/data analysis 
  • Advising students and serving as a peer resource for faculty and staff 
  • Contributing to a collaborative and innovative department, division, college, and district by serving on committees including in leadership roles and staying actively involved in institutional initiatives 
  • Keeping current in trends in computer science education and technology and engaging in professional development activities 
  • Engaging in curriculum and program development incorporating current educational theories and research, particularly about serving marginalized and minoritized students 
  • Conducting ongoing curricular development, assessment, and revision that promotes effective learning 
  • Engaging in shared governance, including efforts to build an antiracist institution focused on action to advance access, retention, and success for our most marginalized and vulnerable students and employees 
  • Collaborate with high schools to promote dual-credit pathways into the BSCS program. 
  • Build partnerships with local businesses and organizations to enhance recruitment and career opportunities for students.

Typical Qualifications

 

Minimum Qualifications 

  • A Master's degree (or higher) in computer science or related field. 
  • Three (3) years of recent (within the last 10 years) industry experience in Computer Science and/or Computer Information Systems OR demonstrated knowledge of current industry trends
  • Three (3) years of higher education or K-12 teaching experience OR combination of teaching and relatable experience 
  • Ability to teach a mix of: software engineering, software security, programming languages, computer architecture, operating systems, cloud computer systems and services, data science development, and applied linear algebra from a CS perspective. 
  • Proficiency in Agile software development and release processes. 
  • Commitment to teaching excellence and the ability to develop curriculum and teach undergraduate courses in computer science. 
  • Commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion in the classroom and the academic community. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Ph.D in Computer Science, Software Development, and/or Computer Engineering or related field. 
  • Knowledge of programming languages including Java, JavaScript, Rust, ML, Haskell, Swift, C, C++, and/or Python. 
  • Demonstrated success in instructing adult learners, including workers seeking retraining or students seeking career changes, in both formal and informal settings. 
  • Experience collaborating with and developing industry and k-12 partners. 
  • Demonstrated professional experience and interests in the intersection between computer science and management information systems. 
  • Active involvement in professional organizations and engaging in professional development. 
  • Demonstrated experience effectively collaborating with colleagues, teams, and other stakeholders 
  • Ability to create or modify curriculum that supports diverse student populations, addresses equity gaps, and utilizes a variety of evidence-based active learning strategies, modalities, instructional technologies, and teaching methods
