The Department of Administrative Services (DAS) is seeking an experienced and highly organized professional to manage Mahonia Hall, the official residence of Oregon’s Governor. As the Executive Residence Director, you will ensure the smooth operation of the residence, support the needs of the First Family, and oversee official state events. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to Oregon’s history while managing a prestigious and dynamic environment. 

 

What You’ll Do 

  • Direct all daily operations of the Executive Residence, serving as the primary liaison between the First Family, state agencies, and external partners. 
  • Oversee maintenance and historic preservation, working closely with DAS facilities and external vendors. 
  • Plan and execute events, from intimate gatherings to large official functions, managing logistics, catering, and decor. 
  • Manage the artwork on loan, ensuring proper stewardship of assets. 
  • Onsite supervision of staff and contracted services, ensuring high standards of hospitality and upkeep. 
  • Administer the residence budget, track expenditures, and coordinate financial planning. 
  • Lead transitions between gubernatorial administrations, providing continuity and support to incoming First Families. 
  • Serve as a spokesperson and liaison, educating visitors on the history and function of the Executive Residence.

What We Are Looking For 

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • A bachelor’s degree in business/public administration, behavioral/social sciences, finance, political science, or a related field and five years of professional-level evaluative, analytical, and planning experience. 
  • OR eight years of equivalent experience and education. (need to specify specific experience)

  • Event & Operations Management: Experience in event planning, hospitality, executive operations, or estate management. 
  • Leadership & Organization: Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, staff, and projects with professionalism and discretion. 
  • Project Management and Coordination: Skilled in coordinating maintenance, renovations, and operations on the property. 
  • Historic Preservation & Design: Expertise in maintaining the aesthetic and historical integrity of the residence. 
  • Financial & Vendor Oversight: Proficiency in budgeting, purchasing, and coordinating with vendors. 
  • Confidentiality & Judgment: Demonstrated discretion, professionalism, and sound decision-making in a high-profile environment. 
  • Strategic Communication & Collaboration: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to build consensus and work effectively across teams.

Additional Details 

  • Employee is required to possess and maintain a valid driver’s license issued by the state where the employee resides.
