Washington County Fleet Services Division is now hiring an Automotive Light Duty Technician! Fleet Services is a division within the department of Facilities, Fleet, & Parks. Fleet Services is a full-service centralized fleet comprised of 750 vehicles and equipment with a staff of 20 to support the county's fleet of vehicles. If you are an automotive technician with experience performing diagnosis, repairs, and maintenance on a variety of light and medium duty vehicles join the Fleet Services Division as a Light Duty Technician.

The Light Duty Technician performs work on a variety of gasoline and diesel-powered automobiles, pick-up trucks, and other light-duty vehicles. Duties may range from routine preventative maintenance and repair to major engine repair or overhaul or perform diagnostics and repair on complex electrical/electronic systems. The ability to maintain The State of Oregon DEQ emissions tester certification. Duties may include preparing and outfitting new vehicles with various levels of emergency lighting and equipment for service. Fleet Services supports county departments during inclement weather and staff may be required to work in those instances.

The ideal candidate will possess the knowledge and skills of a journeyman level automotive technician with history of performing advanced diagnostics and repairs on a wide variety of light and medium duty vehicles. They are an energetic automotive professional with a passion for public service, an eye for detail, a strong work ethic, are able to multi-task and adapt to reactive and emergency situations, demonstrate good communication skills, and have consistent attendance. They are a team player and can swiftly shift priorities to respond to urgent work requests with pride, professionalism, and a positive demeanor.

Minimum Qualifications

• Three (3) years of experience in overhauling and rebuilding gasoline engines; diagnosing mechanical and electrical defects and failures in cars and light-duty trucks; vehicle maintenance; and fabricating and installing automotive repair parts.

• Completion of Automotive Trade School may be substituted for one (1) year of experience.

• ASE Certifications/Certified

• Associate Degree in Automotive Technology

Additional Requirements

• Must attend and successfully complete the State D.E.Q. training program on auto emissions testing within six months of hire and be licensed as an emissions tester; must be bondable for licensing.

• Must possess a driver's license valid in the State of Oregon and have an acceptable driving record per Washington County policy. To review Washington County's Driver's License and Record Policy: Driver's License & Records Policy (Vehicles - Section 800).

• Use a personal computer, copy machine, air tools, drills, grinders, welder, cutting torch, plasma cutter, overhead cranes, ladders, stepstools, creepers, tire machine, hand tools, brake lathe, band saw, jack stands, and lifts.

• Operate a forklift, service truck, and all one-ton and under vehicles.
