Data Center Services (DCS) is a shared service organization within Enterprise Information Services (EIS). DCS serves the citizens of Oregon by enabling and supporting the missions of more than 150 State of Oregon agencies, Boards and Commissions through the delivery of Information Technology (IT) services. The DCS team maintains and operates a state-of-the-art Data Center, providing a highly secure environment with redundant infrastructure for high availability and efficiency. The services we provide include network connectivity (WAN, LAN, and Wireless), server hosting (mainframe, iSeries, AIX, Linux, and Windows), email services, data center colocation and data backup services.
What You’ll Do
The DCS Deputy Director provides strategic leadership for the State Data Center, ensuring 24/7 system availability to meet Oregon’s enterprise IT needs. As part of the executive team, this role helps set the strategic direction for statewide technology services and oversees critical infrastructure operations. Your leadership ensures reliable IT services that power essential public programs across Oregon.
Key Responsibilities

Lead and coordinate DCS operational programs to support state, county, and city organizations.

Plan, develop, and maintain essential hardware/software infrastructure, including mainframe services, networks, telecommunications, wireless, and central computing facilities.

Ensure timely completion of workloads per Service Level Agreements, 24/7.

Build strong partnerships with senior leaders across agencies to align technology solutions with business objectives.

*Note: Effective Feb. 1, 2026, the compensation plan for this position will be increased to reflect a Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) of 2.5%. The salary listed in this posting does not reflect the COLA.
This Is What You Need to Qualify
Qualified related experience and education: degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, Public Administration or professional management experience as a program/unit leader, assigning and reviewing work of professional Information Technology staff (e.g., programmers, developers, engineers, etc.) including responsibility for developing goals and objectives, program evaluation, and monitoring and controlling or preparing a budget.
The ideal candidate will possess the following desired skills and attributes:

Experience managing large vendor ecosystems supporting data center, cloud, networking, security, and platform services.

Leadership experience overseeing hybrid infrastructure environments, including on-premises data centers, cloud platforms, and legacy systems.

Experience working in large public-sector or highly regulated enterprise IT environments with proven experience managing managers and leading large, technically diverse teams.

Experience designing or overseeing enterprise-scale network, connectivity, and resiliency architecture.
-
Familiarity with chargeback, cost recovery, or service-based funding models.

Certifications such as ITIL v4, COBIT, PMP (preferred, not required) or equivalent enterprise frameworks.

Experience leading or supporting large-scale IT, infrastructure, or data center transformation initiatives.

Strong understanding of IT service management (ITSM) practices, metrics-driven operations, and continuous improvement models.

Hybrid Work Opportunity: This position supports a hybrid work schedule. You can expect to work in the office regularly (at least 1-2 days per week) with work arrangements periodically reviewed to ensure business needs are met. In-state travel is required. Business needs may require working irregular hours or shift work (24/7, weekends, evenings, holidays, and travel for job related purposes) in order to do work or make changes or maintenance that are not approved to be done during the hours of 6am – 6pm.

The salary listed is the non-PERS qualifying salary range. If the successful candidate is PERS qualifying, the salary range will reflect an additional 6.95%.
