Position Summary: The Development Director must be passionate about the mission of HIV Alliance and philanthropy and is an experienced leader who will inspire others, including staff, board and volunteers. The Director will employ an innovative, comprehensive strategy to move stakeholders through phases of engagement that will: build community loyalty, raise/leverage resources, and ensure that our donors and community supporters have a positive experience. This position coordinates all aspects of the development plan, including strategic initiatives, and is responsible for improving public understanding of HIV Alliance’s mission and vision and improving community engagement.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement annual development plan and strategic initiatives, including regional strategies, that engages donors/supporters, the board, staff and volunteers
- Identify, cultivate, solicit and steward prospects and donors
- Ensure that all Development initiatives have clearly defined outcomes and impact goals and continually evaluate effectiveness
- Oversee public relations for the agency, including writing/syndicating press releases, arranging media interviews with relevant staff and/or board members, and responding to current events that affect the agency’s work
- Ensure that all agency communication and marketing is engaging and improves brand recognition, including web site, social media and other digital content
- Ensure the success of fundraising and agency awareness events, effectively delegate duties to staff and committee members
- Collaborate with Grants Coordinator and Committee to identify grant opportunities and develop grant proposals
- Directly supervise the Development Manager and support all Development team members in achieving department goals.
- Offer ongoing training and updates to the Board of Directors, and ensure board support through completion of quarterly board tasks
- Work with the Executive Director to identify, engage, recruit, onboard, and steward new board members, committee members, and other community supporters
- Other tasks as assigned, including training/cross-training other staff as needed
Required Qualifications:
- TB test (provided at agency)
- Valid Oregon driver’s license, or valid out of state driver’s license with the ability to get an Oregon driver’s license within 30 days of establishing residency in Oregon, and a driving record sufficient to be covered by agency auto insurance policy.
- Ability to pass agency criminal background check
- Four years of relevant experience in fundraising
- Extensive knowledge of fundraising and demonstrated ability to create and/or increase revenue streams
- Expertise in motivational communication and ability to craft compelling, story-driven messaging and dynamic marketing pieces and public relations narratives
- Strong leadership skills & ability to set challenging & attainable goals, to set priorities, to inspire others to high levels of performance, & to leverage ideas into action
- Experience in effectively prioritizing needs in a complex work environment with multiple and sometimes competing agendas
- Proven strategic, organizational, planning and analytical skills
- Excellent financial and computer skills
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Team player who is self-motivated, high-energy, enthusiastic

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to
- Repetitively use hands, including grasping, twisting/turning of wrists, and finger dexterity to perform various necessary clerical duties, such as typing and writing.
- Frequently use arms, such as pushing & pulling to open/close drawers, cabinets, etc.
- Sit and/or stand for extended periods of time at an assigned station
- Bend, stand, & reach to be able to transport clients and to lift and carry up to 25 pounds for tasks such as building kits & assembling testing/educational materials.
- Use continuous clarity of vision at 20 inches or less for processing of paperwork

Working Conditions, Travel, and Environment:
The duties of this job require individuals to be able to work in non-traditional and community-based settings. Additionally, the duties of this job include travel to other locations necessary to complete essential job functions, including the ability to transport self to job-related events and locations. This role requires regular reliable attendance, including:
- Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends
- Ability to work 5 days per week for a minimum of 40 hours per week
- Ability to work in loud, crowded, busy, or escalated environments
- Ability to drive at night and during various weather conditions safely
