Oregon State University Division of Extension and Engagement’s Family and Community Health Program invites applications for a Family and Community Health Program Coordinator position. This is a 12-month, full-time, professional faculty position that serves Jackson and Josephine counties and is based at the Southern Oregon Research and Extension Center (SOREC) in Central Point, Oregon. The anticipated starting salary is between $52,249 - $67,758 per year.
The FCH Program Coordinator maintains a robust portfolio of programming related to statewide focus areas of public health and nutrition, food systems, physical activity, and health leadership. Specifically, the faculty member provides leadership for the food security and safety programming, including the Master Food Preserver (MFP) program and for programs in the Physical Activity and Active Living (PAAL) portfolio, including StrongPeople. This individual will be responsible for training, managing, and leading active volunteer groups in support program goals.
This professional faculty member is expected to provide appropriate specialized expertise to support area or statewide FCH programming. The specializations will be determined in consultation with the OSU Extension Family and Community Health Program Leader and the Regional Director and will be complementary to those of other Extension faculty in the region or state. As a member of the statewide team of Extension faculty and staff, collaborative work across disciplines, organizational units, and Extension programs areas is expected.
This faculty member is responsible for designing, developing, maintaining and/or carrying out educational programming and outreach activities to serve broad and diverse populations in an accessible, inclusive, equitable, and socially just manner. This includes complying with civil rights and language/visual access regulations.
This position requires driving/traveling. Active and effective communication with staff and key stakeholders is critical to the success of this position, wireless access may be necessary.

Position Duties
40% Program Development and Delivery
- Collaborate with community-based Extension faculty, campus faculty, and others in designing, supporting, implementing, and evaluating effective FCH programs.
- Disseminate program research to broad and diverse audiences including public agencies, health professionals, lay audiences and others, using a variety of teaching techniques and delivery strategies.
- Develop and utilize a program advisory committee and/or other advisory mechanisms as necessary to identify program needs, assist in program implementation and evaluate program effectiveness.
- Foster a culture of learning and continuous improvement by ensuring that assessments and programming are informed by the needs and voices of participants and community members representing the diversity of the counties.
- Develop and expand upon collaborative community partnerships to create innovative programming that is effective, inclusive, and culturally responsive.
- Create opportunities to enhance access, inclusion, and relevant best practices and include these activities in the annual plan of work, impact statements, and summary of accomplishments/ achievements.
- Complete the division’s civil rights training session(s) and coordinate the completion by volunteers.
- Create accessible and inclusive environments and make space for a range of learner needs and provide reasonable accommodations.
- Collaborate with OSU specialists and field faculty to deliver non-credit research-based educational programs focusing on food safety, food security and physical activity.
- Develop new programming in a manner that complements existing programs and services and maximizes impact.
30% Program Management
- Provide leadership for food security and safety and physical activity volunteer programs in Jackson/Josephine Counties (including, but not limited to the Master Food Preserver and StrongPeople programs). Develop an effective volunteer middle management structure, including a mentoring program.
- Create and sustain comprehensive volunteer development and management systems that support delivery of local and regional FCH programs. Travel is required to deliver training and programming throughout the Southern Region.
- Provide oversight and leadership for the OSU Master Food Preserver and Physical Activity programs in Jackson and Josephine Counties.
- Supervise volunteer activities to ensure compliance with OSU policies and positive impact on programmatic goals.
- Coordinate volunteer activities through regular newsletters, meetings, and other group communications
- Develop active programs for updating and re-certifying experienced Master Food Preservers.
- Provide annual impact statement reports adhering to Extension criteria.
- Disseminate research-based information through a wide variety of communication streams, including traditional media, social media, outreach events, and workshops.
- Develop and implement marketing tools that increase awareness of programs and participation of an audience from diverse backgrounds and cultural identities. Follow OSU and division brand guidelines, digital publishing standards and digital contact management data integrity practices for programmatic communications, marketing and engagement.
- Actively participate in and use Ask Extension program.
- Facilitate effective communication with key stakeholders and the general public to promote programs, market Extension and increase support for Extension programs, utilizing appropriate print and digital tools.
- Utilize technology as a tool to increase the reach and impact of program delivery on constituents.
- Keep records and provide necessary reports and other documentation to administrators as requested and needed for program effectiveness. Collect and maintain records for program participation and evaluation data and contribute data to necessary annual reports.
- Maintain record of work contacts, personal vehicle mileage for work travel, supplies purchased; other data/statistical information/records as requested.
25% Supervision/Leadwork
- Oversee recruitment, training and support volunteers from broad and diverse backgrounds, ensuring inclusive excellence. Provide lead work and direction for volunteers who have various identities and backgrounds, communication styles and expectations.
- Follow University guidelines related to Conditions of Volunteer Service, including managing forms and files.
- Prepare and support volunteers in understanding research and following the appropriate program guidelines.
- Train and support volunteers on use of state-approved curricula, effective delivery methods, hands-on activities, and program reporting and evaluation practices.
- Supervise student workers and interns.
- Provide lead work to program assistants in proximal counties.
5% – Service to University and Extension
- Establish and maintain professional relationships and/or membership with professional organizations and public agencies.
- Develop/maintain a liaison with organizations/agencies in Jackson and Josephine Counties.
- Attend scheduled OSU Extension County meetings and relevant program meetings and trainings.
- Participate in relevant statewide/regional conferences, workshops, meetings and trainings.
Minimum/Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Public Health, Family and Consumer Sciences, Education, or another field directly related to the responsibilities of this position and disciplines covered by the College of Health.
- Demonstrated experience developing, teaching, and evaluating educational programs for diverse audiences.
- General proficiency with computers, including information technology, professional office software and collaborative work platforms.
- Interest in home or commercial food preservation and/or food safety.
- Interest in developing and promoting physical activity programs.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate successfully and inclusively with a diverse audience.
- A commitment to collaborative and respectful learning and working environments that are safe, inclusive, and welcoming.
- Ability to learn and adapt to using multiple forms of digital communication systems, including websites, email newsletters, social media, and other tools in a changing technological environment.
- Ability to lead groups and work as a team member with other professionals and volunteers.
- Demonstrated ability to manage volunteer programs, including recruitment, training, delegation and evaluation.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.
This position requires driving a university vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the university; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030.
Preferred (Special) Qualifications
- Bilingual, bicultural, biliterate proficiency in English and Spanish.
- Master’s degree with at least one degree in Nutrition, Public Health, Family and Consumer Sciences, Education or another field directly related to the responsibilities of this position or the disciplines covered by the College of Health.
- Two or more years’ developing and/or teaching community educational programs.
- Culinary training and/or Master Food Preserver certification.
- Experience developing and leading physical activity programs.
Working Conditions/Work Schedule
- Flexibility to perform work in a variety of settings and to work occasional evenings and weekends depending on program needs.
- Ability to work in an “open” office setting.
- Ability to transport educational materials.
- Vehicle access is required to travel/drive to various sites throughout the assigned counties (Jackson and Josephine).
