Washington County's Department of Land Use and Transportation (LUT) is currently seeking an Electrical Inspector to join the team! Currently, we are accepting applications for an Electrical Combination Inspector I OR an Electrical Inspector II. Both positions are a part of the Inspector Series meaning LUT can underfill the Combination Inspector I position at the Inspector II level. The Position

The Electrical Inspectors inspect electrical installations during construction and upon completion for workmanship, use of proper materials, and compliance with electrical code requirements in the following ways:

  • Inspects existing electrical installations upon request to determine safety, adequacy, and code compliance.
  • Inspects electrical systems of fire-damaged buildings to analyze electrical installation systems involvement and determine required repairs.
  • Investigates complaints involving code violations and conducts follow-up investigations.
  • Ensures permits are in place so wiring is installed by a licensed electrician.
  • Reviews plans of proposed electrical work for conformance to code.

 

The Combination Inspector I differs from the Inspector II in that this position conducts inspections in two or more specialties of residential inspections. In addition, they are required to review the overall quality of workmanship for residential electrical and plumbing.


The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills; listening, speaking, and the ability to articulate complex information to other staff as well as to contractors and to the public. The successful candidate will have the ability to be a team player, working closely with those on the inspection team, and follow Building Services procedures in and out of the office. They need to have the experience and capacity to read and intemperate complex commercial plans in one of the following area, structural/mechanical, electrical, or plumbing. Have the ability to self manage time, inspection route, and workload while working individually in the field. Open to learning and working with new technology and software that is required to complete inspections and record inspection results.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Electrical Combination Inspector I

  • A minimum of three (3) years of building construction or inspection-related work experience; OR
  • An approved one-year inspection-related education program, AND a minimum of two (2) years of building construction or inspection-related work experience; OR
  • A degree from an approved two-year inspection-related education program, AND a minimum of one (1) year of building construction or inspection-related work experience.

 

Additional Department And Program-Specific Requirements:

  • Possession of the required certifications per The State of Oregon based on the specialty area (Electrical):
    • Oregon Inspector Certification (OIC) AND
    • Oregon Electrical Specialty Code Inspector Certification (EI) AND 
    • Oregon Residential Inspector Certification in Structural and Mechanical (CAS) OR 
    • Oregon Residential Inspector Certification in Plumbing (CAP)

 

Electrical Inspector II
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Three (3) years of building construction or inspection-related work experience; OR
  • An approved one-year inspection-related education program AND two (2) years of building construction or inspection-related work experience; OR
  • An Associate's Degree from an approved inspection-related education program or its equivalent AND one (1) year of building construction or inspection-related work experience; OR
  • Registration as an Oregon architect or a certified Oregon professional engineer, or have a Bachelor's or Master's Degree in architecture or civil or structural engineering.

 

Additional Licenses, Certificates, Physical Abilities And Specialty Requirements
