About the Position

The duties of this position include but are not limited to: Performing diagnostic and repair work at the Senior Mechanic level; conducting field maintenance of equipment as requested; reviewing and managing work orders; monitoring and responding to Fleet service requests; and engaging in basic site parts inventory control and related requests. This Senior Mechanic position reports to Delta Fleet Service and dispatches to the Glenwood Central Receiving station.

About the Division

General Services - Fleet Services is responsible for providing a modern, well-equipped vehicle and equipment fleet that is maintained and utilized at the lowest reasonable cost while minimizing environmental impacts. The Fleet and General Services Fund is associated with procurement, maintenance, operation, and replacement of fleet assets and are charged directly to the user department through rental rates. Fleet Services provide vehicles, equipment, maintenance services and fuel to County departments and several federal, state, and local partner agencies.

Schedule: Tuesday - Friday, 6:30am - 5:00pm.
Shifts may change per operational needs. This position reports to the Delta Fleet Shop but works primarily out of the Glenwood Central Receiving Station on behalf of Public Works' Waste Management Division.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Training:

  • Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by completion of a two-year training program/apprenticeship in automotive or heavy equipment mechanics.

Experience:

  • Four years of responsible experience as a general mechanic, including at least one year of experience on automobiles and light trucks and at least one year on heavy equipment.
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training that will demonstrate the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.

Special Requirements:

  • Possession of a valid Oregon Driver's License at time of appointment.
  • Possession of a valid Oregon Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within twelve months of appointment.
  • Ability to obtain appropriate CDL endorsements as necessary.

Notes:

  • Finalists for this classification are required to take and pass a pre-employment drug test before entering County employment. Finalists who fail a drug test will not be employed.
  • Employees in this classification who possess a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) are required to participate in an on-going drug testing program, including, but not limited to, random testing, according to requirements of the Federal Highway Administration.
