POSITION: Full-Time/ In-Person 
LOCATION: Beaverton
SALARY: $23.49/hr. - $25.92/hr.  (Bilingual Spanish  $25.60/hr. - $28.25/hr.)

Morrison Child & Family Services is hiring a mental health skills trainer to join our Beaverton outpatient team! You can learn more about our agency, outpatient program, and the open position below.
 
Outpatient Program: 
Morrison Child and Family Services delivers outpatient mental health services to youth, ages 2 through 18, and their families. At the core of our work is a belief in the importance of acknowledging strengths and creating resilience in each youth.  Our skilled care teams collaborate with each youth and their support system to identify a treatment approach that addresses the youth’s mental health symptoms and leads to improved functioning in all areas of the youth’s life.  We strive to provide culturally responsive services and respect the values and unique perspectives of all our clients.
 
Job Summary: 
The Skills Trainer position is part of a multi-disciplinary care team working closely with the client’s mental health therapist and other members of the client’s care team to support the client and their family in meeting their treatment goals and objectives through skill-building activities and therapeutic supports. Skills training services may be delivered in the clinic, home, and community settings depending on the youth’s acuity, needs, and circumstances.
 
Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Provide individualized and group-based mental health skills training to clients (ages 2-18) in their homes, clinic, and community settings, promoting emotional regulation, social skills, and positive behaviors.
  • Collaborate closely with the Mental Health Therapist and other care team members to ensure that services align with the client's treatment goals and objectives, providing feedback and observations to the team.
  • Support clients in developing coping skills, self-regulation strategies, and problem-solving techniques to manage emotional or behavioral challenges.
  • Utilize evidence-based therapeutic interventions and techniques to assist clients in achieving treatment goals.
  • Track client progress and document services provided in accordance with treatment plan objectives, ensuring accurate and timely updates in client records.
  • Provide education and support to families, caregivers, and community members to reinforce skills and strategies at home and in community settings.
  • Participate in regular team meetings, supervision, and case consultations to discuss client progress, treatment adjustments, and ongoing needs.

Experience/Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a behavioral health or related field OR
  • At least 3 years of applicable education or work experience in the behavioral health field.
  • Meet Qualified Mental Health Associate (QMHA) requirements under State of Oregon Administrative Rules (OARs).
  • Experience working with children and/or adolescents.
  • Knowledge of child development, mental health conditions, and behavioral interventions.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively, while being part of a collaborative team environment.
  • Comfort working in home and community-based settings.
  • Basic computer skills using word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and email.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bilingual in Spanish, both written and spoken. Must clear a language proficiency test for Spanish.
  • Bachelor’s degree in behavioral health or related field
  • Direct experience with children and/or adolescents in a mental health setting
Other Requirements:
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license within 30 days of hire.
  • Reliable personal transportation allowing for frequent, regular travel within the Portland Metro area in a timely manner.
  • Proof of personal auto liability coverage ($100,000/$100,000 must be maintained), and a driving record that meets corporate driving requirements.
  • Ability to pass background checks and meet credentialing requirements.
Working Conditions
  
EnvironmentWork is done in clinical offices, community settings, including Morrison Residential, administration buildings, public locations, and social service sites. Breaks and meals are subject to interruption. Universal Precautions and remaining alert to the environment are critical to address the potential for violent behavior, exposure to disease, biohazards, noise, and contaminants. 
  
Mental demands: Work assigned is diverse and may involve addressing new and unique circumstances. The work might be unpredictable and disrupts planned tasks, requiring flexible time management. 
  
Physical demands: Ability to remain calm and emotionally available serving youth, adults and or families who have experienced trauma. Proficient with office equipment and physical movement. Ability to perform physical interventions if needed in accordance with program and training. Physical dexterity for reaching, stooping, and repetitive wrist and hand motions.
