PURPOSE: This position oversees the Student Growth and Experience Department, which provides comprehensive support to staff, students, and families across the district. This role encompasses leadership in all areas of teaching and learning, including curriculum development, instructional support, assessment administration, and the delivery of whole-child services, such as special education, counseling, mental health support, and English language development programs.

Salary: $142,133.00-$164,831.00 with benefits

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leads the Student Growth and Experience (SGE) Department in all areas related to curriculum, instruction, assessment, state and federal programs, and professional development, ensuring a balanced approach that supports both academic growth and the whole-child framework (including nursing, counseling, mental health, and family advocacy services).
  • Directs the planning, development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the district's K-12 curriculum and professional development, ensuring it is rigorous, inclusive, and aligned with district goals and state/federal standards. 
  • Oversees the selection of core instructional materials and supplemental/intervention programs to meet diverse student needs.
  • Supports special education and related services, programs, and grants to ensure district compliance with state and federal laws and regulations related to the implementation of IDEA. 
  • Interprets, explains, and applies district state and federal laws, guidelines, policies and procedures for staff, students, parents, and others in a timely and accurate manner.  
  • Recognizes needs for new or revised policy/procedure and makes recommendations for changes to the Assistant Superintendent.
  • Works to expand learning opportunities for students, focusing on maximizing progress through the use of research-based best practices. Champions initiatives to provide diverse instructional pathways that cater to students' academic, social, and emotional needs.
  • Fosters a collaborative and innovative culture that engages students, staff, and the wider community. Promotes shared leadership and teamwork across schools, districts, and with external partners.
  • Leads the district's efforts on standards-based curriculum and reporting practices for all grade levels, ensuring clarity and consistency in measuring and communicating student progress.
  • Guides and facilitates the implementation of Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) across the district to improve instructional practice, student outcomes, and staff collaboration.
  • Orients school and district administrators on state and district requirements for curriculum, instruction, and assessment, ensuring consistency across all schools.
  • Organizes and implements a staff development plan for licensed staff across all grade levels, focused on continuous improvement, equity, and culturally responsive teaching practices. 
  • Directs the development and implementation of district-wide student assessment programs, including formative and summative assessments, to measure student growth and inform instructional decision-making.
  • Facilitates district meetings as requested, such as the Student Growth and Experience (SGE) Department and Leadership Team.
  • Supervises and evaluates key Student Growth and Experience staff members, providing coaching, professional development, and support to foster team growth, accountability, and effectiveness.
  • Oversees the development and management of the Student Growth and Experience Department's budget, including the administration of state and federal grants. Ensures fiscal responsibility and equitable allocation of resources.
  • Works collaboratively with the Assistant Superintendent, school principals, district departments, and staff to foster a service-oriented and supportive climate across the district.
  • Represents the Student Growth and Experience (SGE) Department in communication with the School Board and community as requested.
  • Partners with the Assistant Superintendent in the human resources department to support the new teacher mentoring program, fostering a culture of professional growth and retention.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent or Superintendent, as needed to further the district's mission and vision for student success.

  • Maintain personal appearance and hygiene appropriate to the position as defined by the district.
  • Meet applicable district physical ability/health and safety guidelines for the position.

  • Oregon Administrative License.
  • Record of education positions with increasing responsibility.
  • Teaching experience.
  • Experience with curriculum development, staff development for best instructional practice, and use of student assessment data to drive instructional decisions and school improvement.
  • Extensive knowledge of the provisions of IDEA and special education curriculum and experience with program improvement and instructional development.
  • Experience presenting to adults.
  • A clear understanding of graduation requirements, CTE, TAG, and Title programs.
  • Budgeting and planning experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, and under tight deadlines using own initiative while maintaining a positive and enthusiastic attitude.
  • Demonstrated ability to take a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Demonstrated ability to assist in program evaluation.  This includes gathering and analyzing data and developing and implementing improvement plans.
  • Knowledge of programs that support learning among students with special needs that include behavior, talented and gifted, special education, and language learners.
  • Evidence of high-level interpersonal skills demonstrating the ability to work effectively with diverse groups of people.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.  Demonstrated ability to communicate successfully in a variety of settings, including small and large groups. 
  • Knowledge and experience with programs that support learning among students of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
  • Remain current regarding laws, policies, trends, and best practices related to education in general and special education programs and ability to share this knowledge with staff regularly.
  • Ability to travel among district facilities as needed; if driving, the ability to meet district driving standards.
