Data Center Services (DCS) is a shared service organization within Enterprise Information Services (EIS.)  DCS serves the citizens of Oregon by enabling and supporting the missions of more than 150 State of Oregon agencies, Boards and Commissions through the delivery of Information Technology (IT) services. The DCS team maintains and operates a state-of-the-art Data Center, providing a highly secure environment with redundant infrastructure for high availability and efficiency. The services we provide include network connectivity (WAN, LAN, and Wireless), server hosting (mainframe, iSeries, AIX, Linux, and Windows), email services, data center colocation and data backup services.   

 

Network Services is responsible for the Data Center network, wide area network (WAN), metropolitan area network (MAN), local area networks (LAN) and wireless networks. Primary functions include responsibility for the design, engineering, configuration and installation, and administration and maintenance of the enterprise’s data communication systems. As the Senior Network Engineer, you’ll provide the highest levels of expert network planning and technical support to management, staff and all state agencies.

What We Are Looking For

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Seven (7) years of information systems experience in: planning, designing and integrating large scale network architecture; OR

 

  • An Associate's degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, OR completion of a two (2) year accredited vocational training program in information technology or related field; AND 5 years of information systems experience in: planning, designing and integrating large scale network architecture; OR

 

  • A Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field AND three (3) years of information systems experience in: planning, designing and integrating large scale network architecture; OR

 

  • Master's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field AND one (1) year of information systems experience in: planning, designing and integrating large scale network architecture.

 

Desired Attributes:

  • Experience with MPLS, OSPF, BGP, SDN, SDWan, Cloud Connectivity Services.

  • Demonstrated skills in Project Management principle and processes.

  • Experience developing work products for technical and non-technical users such as statements of works, issue logs, and business requirements/specifications for complex IT projects.

  • Experience process planning, analyzing workflow process and business models, analysis, and researching complex technical issues.

  • Demonstrated skills in design, implementation, and maintenance of complex enterprise networks, WAN, Datacenter, LAN using the Cisco and Juniper platforms.

  • Creating and maintaining network reference architectures, infrastructure roadmaps, overseeing implementation of IT cloud integrated systems.

  • Proven expertise working with multiple vendors and clients, providing quality assurance, and IT system support and security.

  • Demonstrated skill and ability to collaborate with teammates and build positive business relationships with superiors, subordinates, peers, and others outside of their organization.

  • *This position is designated as an “Essential Position” (State Policy #60.015.01) in all cases of official State office closures. The incumbent in this position is required to report to work in all cases of official notification of State office closures. Exceptions: previously approved vacation and absences. This position may be assigned tasks outside the normal position duties as needed to respond to the special conditions of the closures. If reporting to the normal work location is deemed too dangerous, then the person in this position must contact their supervisor to be reassigned to an alternate and/or remote location.  The Network team provides after hours support via a paid on-call rotation and must be able to report to the State Data Center in Salem, OR within one hour.
