The role:
Do you have a strong understanding of engineering design? Join our team as a roadway designer in Salem! You will work with multidisciplinary teams to design highway transportation construction projects. These projects typically include freeway safety, overlays, improvements to rural and urban arterial highways, major bridge replacement, city streets, county roads and more. Apply today!

A day in the life:
- Prepare and design roadway portion of plans, special provisions and estimates for transportation projects while in compliance with design standards.
- Consult with and coordinate contract plan preparations with other units.
- Review design alternatives to find benefits regarding public safety, project goals and cost savings.
- Participate in project teams and provide technical guidance on project development.
- Answer questions from other staff, the public and other agencies.
- Provide design support during construction which includes design changes, reviewing materials submitted and three-dimensional design information.
- Determine, present and implement approved team proposals and provide feedback during team meetings.
- Complete project milestones per project schedules on multiple concurrent assigned projects.
- Occasional field scoping, inspection trips and meetings throughout the region.
- Work is performed in a typical office environment with the potential of hybrid work options available after training.

Minimum qualifications:
Completion of and passing score on the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam AND one year of experience applying professional engineering theory, principles and methods.
Special qualifications:
Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s). Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.

- Degree in civil transportation-related engineering with experience with ODOT roadway design procedures.
- Experience developing plans, specifications and cost-estimates for public agency transportation projects.
- Experience with MicroStation and other Bentley design software packages.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and solid verbal and written communication skills to compliment an outstanding customer service
- Ability to meet deadlines while working on multiple projects.
